Amid growing political rumors, Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially addressed reports suggesting he plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing them as "baseless and politically motivated distractions."


Speaking during a press briefing at the Government House in Umuahia, Governor Otti made his stance clear:


> "I remain fully committed to the mandate entrusted to me by the good people of Abia under the Labour Party. There is no defection — not today, not tomorrow."




His firm denial comes after days of political tension and media speculation, sparked by alleged secret meetings between top APC officials and Otti’s associates. The rumors had set off alarm bells across Abia’s political spectrum, with many fearing a major power shift.


However, Otti insisted his focus is on governance, not political scheming:
