Hope Restored: NYSC DG Confirms Payment of Minimum Wage Arrears to Ex-Corps Members

NYSC DG Confirms Minimum Wage Arrears Will Be Paid to Ex-Corps Members

Abuja, Nigeria – April 6, 2025 | Audoz Buzz

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, has officially confirmed that outstanding minimum wage arrears owed to former corps members will be paid.

This development comes in response to mounting inquiries and concerns raised by ex-corps members who served during the transition period of the implementation of the revised national minimum wage. The NYSC DG made the announcement during a press briefing at the agency’s national headquarters in Abuja.

“We are fully aware of the arrears owed to ex-corps members and I want to assure them that their entitlements will be paid. The NYSC is actively collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Finance and other relevant agencies to ensure prompt disbursement,” Brigadier General Ahmed stated.

He explained that while the delay has caused understandable frustration, it was largely due to rigorous verification processes being carried out to guarantee transparency and to prevent payment to ineligible individuals.

According to the Director-General, a comprehensive list of affected former corps members has already been compiled and submitted for processing. The NYSC emphasized its commitment to fairness and accountability throughout the process.

Brigadier General Ahmed also issued a stern warning to ex-corps members to beware of fraudsters posing as NYSC officials offering to fast-track payments. “All updates regarding this process will be communicated through the official NYSC platforms. Beneficiaries are advised to disregard any unofficial communication and report suspicious activity,” he added.

This assurance comes at a time when discussions around youth service reform and welfare have taken center stage in national discourse. Many young Nigerians have been advocating for improved allowances and a more robust support system during and after their national service.

As the nation awaits the commencement of these payments, the NYSC urges all former corps members to remain patient as the agency finalizes the required modalities.
