Lines of Injustice: INDI Demands Removal of INEC Officials Over Disputed Warri Ward Delineation

INDI Demands Removal of INEC Officials Over Controversial Ward Delineation in Warri Federal Constituency

By Audoz Buzz

In a bold move that has sent shockwaves across Delta State’s political landscape, the Itsekiri National Development Initiative (INDI) has called for the immediate removal of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials allegedly responsible for recommending a controversial ward delineation proposal in Warri Federal Constituency.

The demand, made public through a strongly worded statement on Sunday, accuses certain INEC officials of bias, manipulation, and a deliberate attempt to undermine the representation of the Itsekiri ethnic group in Warri South, Warri North, and Warri South-West local government areas.

According to the President of INDI, Comrade Oritsegbemi Ukubeyinje, the new ward delineation recommendations blatantly ignore demographic realities and historical data, skewing representation in favor of other ethnic groups within the constituency.

“This is not just an administrative error. It is a calculated, politically-motivated injustice against the Itsekiri people. The officials who pushed for this flawed delineation process have no business remaining in INEC,” Ukubeyinje stated during a press briefing in Warri.

He described the move as a threat to the fragile peace and unity of Warri, warning that such actions could trigger ethnic tension if not reversed.

Sources within INDI claim that the officials in question relied on manipulated population figures and politically-influenced field reports to redraw the ward boundaries. These actions, they argue, would dilute Itsekiri voting strength in future elections, effectively disenfranchising the community in its own ancestral land.

“It is unheard of that communities with significant populations and voting records like those in Itsekiri strongholds are being marginalized in this new ward arrangement,” said Chief Eyimofe Olowu, a Warri South elder. “This is not delineation—it’s disenfranchisement.”

INDI’s demands are clear:

1. Immediate suspension and investigation of the INEC officials involved.

2. A halt to the implementation of the current ward delineation until an independent review is conducted.

3. Inclusion of traditional stakeholders, including Itsekiri community leaders, in any future delineation process.

They have vowed to pursue legal and constitutional means if INEC fails to respond promptly. As of press time, INEC has not officially responded to the allegations. Attempts to reach the Delta State INEC office for comments were unsuccessful.

Political observers warn that this controversy, if left unresolved, could further erode public trust in INEC’s neutrality—especially ahead of future local and national elections.

Warri Federal Constituency has long been a melting pot of ethnic identities—Itsekiri, Urhobo, and Ijaw among them. However, any imbalance in political representation is often seen as a powder keg, capable of igniting deep-rooted ethnic grievances.

“Our community will not sit back and watch while bureaucrats in Abuja and their agents on the ground rewrite our political destiny,” Comrade Ukubeyinje declared. “We are demanding justice, and we will not back down.”

As tensions mount and political stakeholders begin to weigh in, all eyes are now on INEC. Will the electoral umpire defend its integrity—or allow itself to be dragged into the murky waters of ethnic politics in Warri?
